Chub Frank Ready To Kick Off New Season At Volusia Speedway Park, Erase Memories Of Frustrating 2010 Campaign

BEAR LAKE, PA – Feb. 11, 2011 – Chub Frank is ready to erase the memories of his frustrating 2010 season.

The veteran standout from Bear Lake, Pa., will begin putting his ’11 program to the test with a trip south to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., for the 40th annual DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH, a six-night mid-winter racing meet that features the season-opening World of Outlaws Late Model Series events on Feb. 17 and 19 and DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned programs on Feb. 14, 15, 16 and 18.

Frank, who celebrated his 49th birthday on Jan. 22, is coming off one of the most struggle-filled campaigns of his sparkling three-decade-long career. He reached Victory Lane three times in Friday-night starts at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., last season, but he failed to win a WoO LMS A-Main for the first time in the seven-year modern era of the tour and fell to a 10th-place finish in the final points standings.

“I’m not looking forward to another year like that, I’ll tell you that much,” the driver known as ‘Chubzilla’ said of his 2010 performance. “We’ve worked hard in the shop over the winter, we’re gonna do some things different, and hopefully we’ll get things turned around this year.”

Frank will head to the half-mile Volusia oval armed with a brand-new Rocket car and a 2008-vintage mount that he raced in the past, sold and now has back in his possession. The sponsors of his Chub Frank Racing effort remain Corry Rubber, Lake Shore Paving, Hino Toyota, Sorbera Family Chiropractic, All-Star Performance, Slavic Corporation, Custom Race Engines, GW Performance, Integra Shocks and Hoosier Tire.

The fast Volusia track has treated Frank well in the past – since 1998, only two drivers have more feature wins there in February than Chub’s five triumphs – but he’s not sure what to expect this season.

“We had a real good stretch there at Volusia,” said Frank, whose last victory at the oval came in 2006. “But the track’s different now from when we were winning races. They think it has to be wide-open and that makes it harder to pass. We were better there when the track was slower.”

The DIRTcar Nationals by UNOH will cap a very busy off-season for Frank, whose shop has been bustling with activity since last November. In addition to the preparation of his machines, he’s spent countless hours selling cars and putting them together for his healthy list of customers from the western Pennsylvania area and beyond.

Frank’s 2011 schedule beyond the events at Volusia, meanwhile, remains uncertain. While he’s been a WoO LMS regular since 2004 and hopes to once again tackle the tough national tour on a fulltime basis, he’s going to evaluate his early-season results and sponsorship backing before determining his complete ’11 intinerary.

“I don’t have a plan at the moment,” said Frank. “We’re gonna go to Florida and then figure out where we go from there. Our focus right now is just on getting our stuff going better and then everything else will fall into place.”
