Ugly Weather Follows Chub Frank’s Season-Best World of Outlaws Late Model Series Outing At Ocala Speedway

BEAR LAKE, PA – March 31, 2011 – Just as Chub Frank began to gain some momentum on the World of Outlaws Late Model Series, Mother Nature stepped up and kept him off the racetrack.
After driving his Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota Rocket car to a season-best fifth-place finish in the ‘Sunshine 50’ on March 25 at Ocala (Fla.) Speedway, the 49-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa., didn’t get the chances to continue improving that he expected. Thunderstorms forced the postponement of WoO LMS events on March 26 at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Ga., and March 27 at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, Ga., and a forecast of ugly early-spring weather prompted officials to make an early cancellation of the ‘Illini 100’ scheduled for this weekend (April 1-2) at LaSalle (Ill.) Speedway.

The outbreak of lost races was frustrating for Frank – not only because all the WoO LMS teams traveled to Screven and Needmore before the rain arrived, but also because he felt good about his program after the strong outing at the D-shaped Ocala track. He timed 14th-fastest, finished third in his heat race and advanced from the eighth starting spot in the 50-lap A-Main to record his first top-five finish of 2011.
“We had a good car,” Frank said of his Ocala run. “We had a good car last week at Columbus (Miss.) too (he was bidding for a top-five spot midway through the Cash Cow 100 when his right-rear wheel broke), so it looks like we’re going in the right direction.
“I’m just happy to finally finish a race. We needed a run like this.”
Both of the rained-out WoO LMS races in Georgia were rescheduled – Needmore for Sun., May 8, and Screven for Nov. 1 or 2.
Frank, who sits 10th in the WoO LMS points standings (60 points behind leader Josh Richards) after four events, is using the open weekend afforded by the cancellation of the Illini 100 to catch up on much-needed work in his shop. After being on the road for a week-and-a-half, he not only has his own cars to go over but also must assemble and setup cars for several customers.
