Friday-Night Visit To Lernerville Speedway Brings Chub Frank First Victory Of 2012

BEAR LAKE, PA – May 15, 2012 – Chub Frank broke through for his first win of 2012 last Friday night, pulling off a flag-to-flag triumph in the 25-lap dirt Late Model feature at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.

Continuing the string of success he’s enjoyed in selected weekly-show appearances at the four-tenths-mile oval, Frank took advantage of an off weekend from World of Outlaws Late Model Series competition to reacquaint himself with Victory Lane.

“It always feels good to get a win,” said the 50-year-old veteran from Bear Lake, Pa. “I don’t care where you’re at – it’s hard to win anytime in these cars anymore.”

Wheeling the Corry Rubber/Hino Toyota/Horton Equipment Rocket No. 1* he debuted last month at Lernerville with a runner-up finish, Frank bolted off the outside-pole starting spot to lead the entire distance. He turned back the bids of Alex Ferree to record his 15th career win at Lernerville.

“I don’t know how close Ferree got because I haven’t seen any video of (the race), but I think he was right there,” said Frank, who ranks 11th on Lernerville’s alltime dirt Late Model win list. “I don’t know if he was there the whole time, but they said he was pretty good.

“We were O.K., but the car was inconsistent. We were trying some stuff, and if you hit it right it would roll around there really fast, but the next lap you might not be any good. We were good enough to hold on and win off the front row, but I’m not thinking it’s where we need to be yet with the car.

“I definitely don’t think it’s what we want the car to be for the Firecracker (100 on June 28-30 at Lernerville). Maybe the first two nights (30-lap preliminary features) it will be O.K., but I don’t think it will be any good in the 100. But we’re working on that, and we learned some stuff. That’s why we go to Lernerville when we’re off from the Outlaws.”

Frank also entered last Saturday night’s Neil’s Propane United Late Model Series 30 at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., a track just across the border from his home. He finished a quiet eighth in a headliner won by Robbie Blair.

“We weren’t any good Saturday at all,” said Frank. “We were on a different tire (compound) than the other guys, which probably wasn’t the smart move because now we don’t know if the tire was wrong or the car was wrong. Robbie (Blair) and those guys had different tires on, and we probably should’ve just gone that route so at least we’d know where we were at with the car.”

With the WoO LMS idle until Memorial Day weekend, Frank plans to return to Lernerville this Friday night (May 18) for another weekly show appearance. He does not expect to race on Saturday night; instead, he is scheduled to attend the wedding of his cousin Rick ‘Boom’ Briggs’s daughter, who is tying the knot with dirt Late Model racer Mike Knight.
