Late-Race Flat Tire Derails Chub Bid For Strong Finish At
Farmer City Raceway

April 7, 2008
BEAR LAKE, PA –  Chub Frank could taste a strong finish in last Saturday night’s inaugural ‘Illini 100’ at Farmer City (Ill.) Raceway.

The star driver from Bear Lake, Pa., had to settle for a disappointing 12th-place finish in the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event, however, after a cut left-rear tire derailed his solid effort with just 12 laps remaining.

“I was just trying to keep my car in one piece and get a good finish out of it,” said Chub, who started from the outside pole and led laps 1-9 before settling into a top-five spot. “The line I was using wasn’t the fastest, but I ran it because I was trying to stay out of the holes so I wouldn’t tear a left-rear tire off like I saw so many guys doing.

“We were just hoping for a good points night, but we got caught anyway and got a flat.”

Shortly after losing third place on lap 74 to eventual winner Billy Moyer, Chub watched Moyer slide in front of Steve Francis for second between turns one and two. Moyer’s lap-82 move forced Francis to check up, causing a chain-reaction jam-up behind him that did in Chub.

“When Moyer did a slide-job on Francis, Francis got hung up on the cushion (in turn two),” said Chub. “I slowed down to avoid hitting Francis, and then (Tim) McCreadie ran over me. It’s not Timmy’s fault because he didn’t have anywhere to go, but he got into my left-side door and that pushed the body back into the tire.

“A few laps later the tire blew up. The body cut the tire right in half.”

Chub pitted and remained on the lead lap to the checkered flag, but there wasn’t enough time for him to finish better than 12th in his Lester Buildings/Corry Rubber/All Star Performance/Corry Laser/Slavic Corporation/Farr MotorSports/Lake Shore Paving/Custom Race Engines Chevrolet Impala SS Rocket Chassis No. 1*. He earned $1,800 for his night’s work.

A heat-race winner on Friday night despite timing 23rd-fastest in the 55-car field, Chub left the quarter-mile oval ranked seventh in the WoO LMS points standings after four events. He trails leader Moyer by 68 points, but he’s only 28 markers out of second place.

Chub returns to action on the WoO LMS on Fri., April 11, at Virginia Motor Speedway. before racing at the WoO LMS banner again on Tues., April 15, at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
