Chub Frank, driving the Chub Frank Racing-owned, Lester Buildings sponsored #1*, were up for a big night on Friday August 13th at Lernerville Speedway when the World of Outlaws Late Model Series made their second appearance at the Sarver, PA ˝ mile clay oval, this time with new sponsor Lester Building executives on hand for the first time. Back in April Chub had won the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event and two months later picked up the victory in Lernerville’s MACS sanctioned event. Going for a trifecta, Friday the 13th may have proved a bit unlucky for ‘Chubzilla’ as he only managed a second place finish but appeared to be the star of the show through his determined effort. Qualifying 15th fastest in time trials among the 45 car field Chub ran third in the third heat qualifying him for the feature where he started in the 16th starting slot for the ‘Sunstream Vacations Night’ at Lernerville Speedway. With the drop of the green flag Chub appeared to be a man on a mission as he sliced and diced his way through the field on his march to the front, thrilling the huge multitude of race fans in attendance. On lap 39, Chub, running fourth, made a bold and daring move in turn four. Looking like a bow and arrow, Chub shot through lapped traffic ending up in second at the line with Eckert, Moyer and Francis following. McDowell's lead began to increase as the lapped cars stacked between them while Chub tried to reel him in. Every inch of the track was used to wage this battle with McDowell and Chub and the four cars behind. Chub came up one car short at the checker in his bid for a trifecta. Back in April the final running order was reversed with Chub winning the main event with McDowell in second. McDowell credited Chub for assistance, since the group running the same chassis share a pool of information, but still run with different driving styles. On hand at Lernerville Speedway to watch Frank in action for the first time personally were Lester Building executives Larry, Tom & Perry. “We were pretty impressed with everything before the green flag dropped and then when it did the feature was outstanding,” commented Larry Lembrich, Vice President of Sales for Lester Buildings. “Chub did an outstanding driving job. There is no question we are hooked with the right person. We had a great time.” Lembrich was especially thrilled with the on-track racing. “He tore up his radiator in his heat race and I’ll tell you what, he maybe had one minute before the green flag dropped on the feature,” said Lembrich. “They threw that thing pretty darn quick and he did a marvelous job driving.” The following night at Lincoln Speedway the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event was rained out. The rescheduled date will be announced. Chub and the Lester Building 1* team’s next scheduled World of Outlaws Late Model Series event will be August 28 at Milan Speedway in Milan, TN. |
