"Chub Frank Shines in the Sunshine State"
Wins the $10,000.00 at Volusia Speedway!

Tonight at Volusia County Speedway Chub Frank won the 50 lap 31st Winter Nationals. It was a flag to flag finish for 1* Chub Frank, Bear Lake, PA. Frank put his Corry Laser, Corry Rubber, Mark Richard's Rocket, Chevrolet Blue Monte Carlo 1* out in front after starting on the outside pole and kept it there while a field of top name drivers tried high and low to get past his ultra fast Rocket. Pole sitter Kenny Pettyjohn, Millsboro, DE held off 6 time 2002 Florida winner Don O'Neal, Martinsville, IN but by the 8th lap O'Neal showed his strength and drove past Pettyjohn for 3rd and Billy Moyer, Batesville, AR followed and took the 4th position while Brian Birkhofer stayed in second. By lap 15 the leaders, Frank, O'Neal and Moyer were lapping slower cars. The top two were out front by 5 car lengths until lap 19 when Wendell Wallace, Batesville AR drove around and passed them all for second. At the half way mark it was Frank, Wallace, O'Neal, Birkhofer and Moyer in the top 5 positions. Rick Eckert, York, PA was charging hard, and made it to the lead pack. The first caution was on lap 34 when the leaders pushed their way past Terry English, of Whiteland, IN, Wendell Wallace got beside Frank in traffic and passed Chub for the lead. Then a yellow flag flew for English who suffered a flat tire and that put Wallace back in second, when the green came out Frank took control for the final 16 laps and recorded the win worth $10,000.00. The 1* team is now headed home to Bear Lake, Pa.  The DIRT Modified's were also there for tonight's final night of speed week's 2002 with Tim McCreadie taking the win over Bret Hearn.
