Chub Frank Begins, Florida Speed Week’s 2002

Tampa, Florida

February 3, 2002

After a very short off-season Chub Frank Racing began the 2002 Florida speed weeks tour at Putnam County Speedway. This stop was unplanned a week ago as Chub figured this would be a good place for his new crew members to work together for the first time and get in shape for his attack on the 2002 Renegade DirtCar Championship next week. Chub just recently added Mark Ward of Wheelersburg, OH. to the crew, Mark formally worked for R. J. Conley and he also received the crew of the year honors from Renegade DirtCar Series in 2001. Mark Ward started with Chub Frank Racing on Wednesday, January 30th and it takes a little time for everyone to get to be familiar with each other and take shape. Rick (Boom) Briggs of Bear Lake, Pa. is also along with the team to assist and lead. Boom one of Chub's closest friends has helped for over 3 years and always comes thru for Chub when needed. Bruce Repine from Sugar Grove, Pa. another new addition has joined the team over the winter. On Friday, February 1st at Putnam County Speedway in Satsuma, Fla. The 3/8-mile clay oval is a very tight racetrack. Chub driving the Corry Laser Rocket 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo started 8th in his heat and won. That put him in Friday nights feature event in the 4th position and while going for the lead he cut down a left front tire and bent a spindle on the 30th lap he then raced to a 3rd place finish. Steve Smith won the 50-lap event and Matt Miller was second. There were 35 cars entered for Friday's event.

Then Saturday, February 2nd Chub ran 3rd in his heat race, which put him in the 11th starting position for last night's feature. Chub was running 7th when he got spun out on the 10th lap and had to start at the rear of the field. He then began to work his way back to the front and finished last night's 50-lap feature event in 4th place. Billy Moyer won the 50 - lap event followed by Steve Lucas 2nd and Rick Aukland 3rd. Today's an off day then its on to East Bay Speedway in Tampa for 6 nights in a row with 3 of those being points races for the 2002 Renegade DirtCar Series Championship, and 3 races counting as UDTRA points. Then the team moves across the state to Volusia County Speedway in Barberville, Fla. just outside of Daytona Beach for 6 more nights of racing.

Sincerely,

Chub Frank Racing Pr.
