Day Three East Bay
Speedway.

Tonight starts the first night of the UDTRA racing series at East Bay
Speedway. This will be the first race of 2002 for Chub with the UDTRA
and the second of the series. Well, tonight Chub rolled out the car that
won the best appearing car award at Motorsports 2002 show 3 weeks ago,
which would prove to be a slight mistake.
The night started off with Chub drawing a #4 qualifying
number. A position that you don't want at East Bay to qualify at, but he
made the best of it. Chub finished 2nd to Davey Johnson in a great heat
race. This put him in 11th starting position for tonight’s 50 lap
UDTRA feature. The racetrack was very fast tonight, on the 7th lap
the caution flew for Randy Korte who hit the pit gate opening entering
turn one. Chub and about 5 or six other cars got collected in the
wreck and Chub's showpiece car survived with only slight body
damage and was able to return to the race. Chub made a couple of
laps more and pulled the 1* car into the pits. The car didn't handle
right after the wreck so Chub parked the 1* and recorded his first DNF
of 2002 |
