Chubzilla Conquers all at North – South 100 At  Florence, KY.

 August 24, 2002 – Bear Lake, Pa

Saturday night was the final night at Florence Speedway with tonight’s “North South 100” sanctioned by The United Dirt Track Racing Association Pro DirtCar Series (UDTRA) paying $15,000.00 to win at Jerry King’s high-banked 1/2-mile speedway. Tonights race drew a field of 55 of the best drivers in the country signing into trying to make this prestige’s event.

The 1* team unloaded the same car once again as they figured it was good for the first two nights why not three and qualified it in 21st position out of the 55 cars. Chub started the 3rd heat in the 4th position and they take the top 3 to the feature event Chub finished the heat in 3rd and transferred into the main event starting in 15th. Chub knew he had his hands full by starting back in 15th as Florence can be very hard to pass on and with the quality of cars in front of him he need to get a lot better so he had Boom Briggs make some minor changes to the car. Chub lined up the Corry Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the “North South 100” at the drop of the green Chub started his move to the front on the second lap he bumped the wall coming off of turn 2 and broke the rear spoiler which didn’t seem to bother him at all and he kept charging to the front, by lap 15 Chub broke into the top ten and it was now apparent he was on a mission as he had the fastest car on the track. Then at lap 35 Chub was now into the top 5 and at half way he was running in 3rd, on the 52nd lap when the first of 2 yellow flags flew Chub was right on the rear bumper of Jimmy Mars when they went back to racing. Chub drove into turn one on the out side and passed Mars coming off of turn two and drove to the outside of the leader Tim Hitt going into turn three, the two raced side by side until the 62nd lap and Chub took the lead coming off of turn 4 and drove off to a full straight away lead. The final caution flew on the 95th lap and bunched up the field but nobody had anything for Chub and the 1* and he drove the Corry Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo back to victory lane for the “North South 100” and another 15,000 dollars and the well deserved the hard charger award.  The top 10 for the final night North South 100 was 1st Chub, 2nd Tim Hitt, 3rd Brian Birkhofer, 4th Billy Moyer, 5th Dale McDowell, 6th Darrell Lanigan, 7th Rick Eckert, 8th Jimmy Mars, 9th Earl Pearson, and 10th was Matt Miller
