KNOXVILLE, IOWA (September 2, 2005) - Chris Smyser of Missouri, Chub Frank of Pennsylvania, Billy Moyer of Arkansas, Jeep Van Wormer of Michigan, Steve Francis of Kentucky, Tim McCreadie of New York and Donnie Moran of Ohio are the first dirt late model drivers to commit to being celebrity waiters at this year’s Knoxville L.M. Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction on Saturday, October 1, at the National Sprint Car Museum. The charity event, which will benefit the non-profit National Sprint Car and National Dirt Late Model Halls of Fame, is open to the general public and is being held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.

According to National Sprint Car Museum executive director Tom Schmeh, “We are very excited about this year’s event, as many of the top dirt late model drivers in the country have signed on to be first-time celebrity waiters. It’ll be fun to see Chubzilla serving cheesecake, Iowa native Billy Moyer rushing pork dinners out from the kitchen, and Timmy Mac refilling the iced teas faster than he gets around Fulton Speedway. In fact, of the first seven drivers to volunteer, only Chris Smyser and Donnie Moran were waiters here last year! Fans are in for a treat, especially when emcee Kathy Krafka Harkema gets interviewing the first-time wait staff!”

The Knoxville Late Model Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction takes place on the National Sprint Car Museum’s air-conditioned second floor on Saturday afternoon, October 1, from 12 until 2:30 p.m. The $15 tickets must be purchased in advance, and can be reserved by calling the museum toll-free at 1-800-874-4488. The dinner is being catered by Hy-Vee Food Stores, with dessert provided by Stephanie Johnson Desserts. Following the meal, Lynn Richard and his family from Mount Pleasant will conduct a live auction of unique, autographed stock car racing memorabilia and souvenirs.

The fun family-friendly event is presented by National Hawkeye Racing News of Vinton, whose internet web site is www.hawkeyeracingnews.com. Those on the event planning committee are Craig Agan, Dan Doyle, Kathy Krafka Harkema, Barry Johnson, Lynn Richard and Tom Schmeh. Last year, Speed Channel’s Jeff Hammond was the top-earning celebrity waiter, and the event raised nearly $5,000 total for the two 501(c)(3) non-profit motorsports museums.
