For Chub Frank, the start of his 2005 season wasn’t perfect but it offered the team a chance to test and experiment early in the week prior to the kick-off of the 2005 World of Outlaw Late Model Series (WoO LMS) season. Chubzilla’s 2005 season jump started at Volusia for the two WoO LMS events and the four United Midwestern Promoters (UMP) events that were held February 14-19. The February 17 & 19 dates were WoO LMS sanctioned. Chubzilla competed in Florida in his Corry Rubber, Lester Building Systems, All Star Performance, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo #1* along with new sponsor Corry Laser & VP Racing Fuels. On Monday night Valentine’s Day Chubzilla pulled out the Rocket Chassis that won the WORLD 100 last September which brought him a third in his heat race and a 12th place feature finish in UMP racing. On Tuesday night UMP was back in action and Chub changed cars and ran his 4-Link Rocket Chassis. Struggling throughout the night, Chub finished fifth in his heat, ran second in his B Main and finished the A Main as a DNF in 23rd. The third consecutive night of UMP racing found Chubzilla starting fourth in his heat and finishing second with a tenth place slot in the feature. Chub was up to fifth in the main event until the right front tire went bad and developed a push and ending with an 11th place finish. The WoO LMS season opener was Thursday and Chub came across the line in third in his heat and after starting 14th came home in 12th. Friday night’s UMP finale saw another third in the heat and a second in the B Main and another DNF at 21st. During Saturday’s WoO LMS event Chub finished third in his B Main behind Robbie Blair and Scott Bloomquist and worked his way up through the field to a seventh place finish. Chub and his wife, Mary, were accompanied to Florida by his team that includes returning crew members Rich ‘Boom’ Briggs, honored as the 2004 Crew Chief of the Year by the WoO LMS, Rich Hart, Bruce Repine and Wayne "Whack" Neureiter in addition to Mike Farr and Ron Slavic. For the Florida tour Chub added crew members Scott Gurdak and Trevor Lillie, “We have a good team, and everyone is on the same page,” said Frank. “We’re going to try our best to take a shot at the World of Outlaws championship and I want to defend the WORLD 100 championship, too.” Chubzilla’s next race will be the WoO LMS events on April 8 at The Rock/Allegany County Speedway in Cumberland, MD and on April 9 at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA. In the meantime Chub will continue to finish up his new shop, finish up his truck and hauler and build new cars and bodies. |
