Bear Lake, PA --- Chub ‘Chubzilla’ Frank
and the 1* Lester Buildings, Corry Rubber, All Star Performance, Corry
Laser, Slavic Corporation, Farr MotorSports, Lake Shore Paving, Custom
Race Engines, Rocket Chassis team just completed another Midwestern swing
starting off with the 24th annual ’North/South 100.’ at Florence Speedway
in Union, Kentucky over the weekend of August 11th & 12th.
Chub started out the weekend in fine fashion, by qualifying on Friday,
August 11th by turning a lap of 15.268 around the 1/2-mile, high-banked
oval placing him 9th quickest out of over 80 cars entered. The
Pennsylvania native then finished third in his heat race on Saturday to
earn the rights to the fifteenth starting spot in the $50,000 to win
A-Main. Chub quickly moved into the eleventh position when the caution
flag flew on the 21st lap setting up a double file restart when the green
came out for the restart Chub dove to the inside of turn one and two and
the outside of turn 2 & 3 and moved into the 6th position. Chub continued
to pick his way through the field as he darted into the top five on lap 28
of the annual mega-event Chub would go on to finish in 3rd for the 24th
annual event which he won back in 2002 by starting in coincidently 15th.
The 1* team moved on to the World of Outlaws Late Model Series event in
Farmer City, Illinois at Farmer City Raceway for the twice rained-out
$10,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series event on August 14. Chub
would qualify for tonight’s event in 10th and went on to finish forth in
the second heat race placing him fourteenth starting position for the
Farmer City 50 event on Monday night August 14th Chub would go on to
finish in twelfth position.
The team moved on to Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Missouri on Tuesday
night for yet another $10,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series
event. After a short maintenance period ChubZilla would set fast time with
a time of 15.226 around the 1/3 mile oval he would finish in 4th in the
heat and that transferred him into the main event starting 10th where he
would end up finishing on the one lane race track.
Chubzilla and the team then headed to the Batesville Speedway in Locust
Grove, Arkansas for the ’Comp Cams Topless 100’ where he won his heat race
after qualifying 17th. During the main event after a race long battle with
some of the top dirt Late Model racers in the country Chubzilla came
across the checkers in fourth place over a star studded field after race
long battles with such stalwarts as Billy Moyer, Terry Phillips and Brian
Birkhofer.
After the Topless 100 Chubzilla and the team then headed south for Georgia
to compete in the North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, GA where tenth
starting Chubzilla thrilled the crowd as he marched steadily forward with
his run right up next to the outside wall. Still running around the rim,
broke into the top five with ten to go and began to immediately challenge
John Davenport taking the spot just two laps later before finally
finishing third when the checkers dropped.
