Chub runs second to at Raceway 7 |
| Conneaut, OH (July 18, 2003) - Chris Hackett from Erie, PA made a last lap pass of Chub Frank to win the thrilling 25-lap The Bolt Place Late Model Feature on Friday night at Raceway 7. The 25-lap Feature for The Bolt Place Late Models started with Chris Hackett and Ryan Markham leading the field to the green flag. The race would go quick as the 25-lap distance would be run non-stop without any caution periods. Hackett would lead the first lap, but Chub Frank was quickly on the move on the high groove after starting fourth. Frank took the lead on lap 2 but Hackett was not through working the inside. It was a side-by-side war for the top position, but Frank continued to lead at the line. Hackett nosed ahead to lead lap 9, but Frank went back ahead on the next lap. |
| At halfway it was still Frank nosing Hackett, with Markham still riding third. Rob Blair from 11th starting spot had just taken fourth from Dick Barton, but the leaders were starting to encounter race traffic. The leaders had trouble negotiating the race traffic, keeping the fans on their feet. Frank had the lead with five laps to go but Hackett again closed in. Changing his strategy, Hackett made a move to the outside and would take the lead on lap 23. Frank would lead by inches on lap 24, but Hackett would nose ahead through turns one and two. |
|
Frank made one last bid to the outside through the final turns, but Hackett would hold on for his third career Raceway 7 victory and his second this season. The 25-lap distance was completed in less than a second under eight minutes, with the margin of victory being .358 seconds. Markham held on for third, with Blair fourth. Barton retained his point lead by finishing fifth, as Dutch Davies, Ron Davies, Bill Watson, Matt Lux, and Matt Urban completing the top ten. With a field of 35 cars on hand, Heat winners were Jim Dandy, Jr., Markham, Watson, and Hackett. Last Chance Race winners were Urban and Bill Cunningham. |
