Chub’s “Dream” Vanishes at Eldora

June 9th, 2002- Bear Lake, Pa

Well, this is the weekend of one of the biggest races of the year on the first weekend of June, Earl Baltes holds The Dream Race paying $100,000,00 to win at his world famous Eldora Speedway in New Weston, Ohio. Chub and the 1* team made the 7 hour trip out to Eldora on Wednesday night to get in line for inspection, on Thursday afternoon over 130 cars were on hand for this years event, Chub was entry #68 even after arriving at after 3:00 am Thursday morning. The 1* crew unloaded the car for inspection on Thursday afternoon and after some minor body work adjustments by Chub’s right foot the car passed inspection Chub then drew for his 2 numbers for qualifying, his first was #171, his second was #122. For the Dream and The World 100 they have you draw 2 numbers with one lap of qualifying going to each number.  On Friday Chub went out almost last in the first round and ran a 15.875 which put him 7th out of 134 cars, he quickly returned to his pit area and informed the team that he didn’t have any brakes so they repaired a cracked brake line and lined up for his second lap of qualifying Chub went out and went 15.805 and that put him 5th fastest and from what we were informed that was the fastest time in the second round of qualifying. Now that put Chub in the 5th heat on Saturday starting in 4th, Chub took the lead from Steve Shaver on the outside going into turn 1 and pulled out to a 5 car length lead and continued to lead until the 14th lap when he came up on lapped traffic with Darrell Lanigan charging hard after starting 3rd chasing the 1* down, coming off the 4th corner a lapped car moved up on the race track and Chub was on the top and Darrell was under him so Darrell won the heat race by a fender and that put Darrell on the outside front row and Chub started in the 11th  position in the 100 lap,$100,000.00 to win Dream.

When Chub got out of the car he reported that the car was extremely loose and we need to make some changes to tighten it up a lot. The entire team changed everything Chub wanted done quickly and Chub lined up the Corry Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo for the $100,000,00 race in the 11th position with the best of the best in dirt late model racing filling out the 24 car starting field. Chub ran up to 6th at one point in the race and dropped out of the race running in the 10th position on the 67th lap with a broken panard bar bracket.

Next up for Chub will be on Friday 6/14 at Isom,KY and Saturday at Chillicothe,OH For
