“Chub Dominates Renegade McKean County Race”

June 1st, 2002- Bear Lake, Pa

The Renegade DirtCar Series traveled to McKean County Speedway for their very first visit. Promoter Dennis Shutt posted a total purse of over $31,000 for the running of the $7,000 to win "Tom Neamon-MAC Tools 50" at the semi-banked 1/3rd mile oval located at the McKean County Fairgrounds.  The entire 1* team arrived a little late at the speedway today after working on the car all day at Chub’s Bear Lake garage, and quickly unloaded the same car that Chub had won with at this track 4 weeks ago. When we arrived at the track it was a completely different race track than Chub had won on. Chub went out and set 6th quick time which put him in the 2nd heat race where he finished 4th so he transferred into the Isky Cams Dash. Chub came in after the heat and said that “he needed something, the car just isn’t right” so the crew and Chub got together and made a lot of changes for the dash, Chub started the dash on the outside of Bob Close on the front row. At the drop of the green Chub took command of the dash and went on to win it. Chub returned quickly to his pit area and stated ”it was a lot better but we need to get better than that to win this race”. Chub and the crew made a few more changes and he lined up on the pole for feature. When the flagman dropped the green it was very obvious Chub was on a mission as he drove the Corry Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo and lapped up to 7th place and went on to win the 50 lap event. In the end he felt that tire choice and some shock changes that were put into the car after the heat, where he finished fourth, and the dash, which he won, were the keys to victory.  He concluded, "We were a little harder than those guys on tires, and I think that's what actually worked out for us.  It seemed to go wherever I wanted to go.  I was surprised.  We made some changes. Mike Farr from Carrera made a few shock changes for the dash and the feature. It seemed to work real good for us.  We learned something in the heats and the dash. Actually I don't think we've won two races this early in the year.  Usually we don't start winning until July.  July, August, and September are usually our months, so if we start early”.

“I hope it keeps going that way."
