Chub Finishes a Strong 6th In The "16th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial” Bear
Lake, Pa. - May 12, 2002 Tonight’s race at Florence Speedway in Union Kentucky is The Renegade DirtCar Racing Series sanctioned "16th Annual Ralph Latham Memorial 50". Chub and the 1* Corry Rubber Corporation, Corry Laser Technology, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Rocket Chassis, Paul & Pudge Pierotti Motorsports, Fluidyne High Performance, Frankland Racing Supply team unloaded the car that they have been working with for the past 3 races. Chub was the 15th fastest with a 17.580 out of the 54 drivers that timed in tonight. Shannon Babb set fast time with a 17.255 and that put Chub in the 3rd heat on the pole with Steve Shaver on the outside and Bob Pierce and Mike Balzano right behind them, Chub took the lead from the start and went on to win the 3rd heat over Shaver, Pierce and Balzano. That put Chub in the 7th starting spot but Shannon Babb suffered ignition while lining up for the dash. Babb's crew worked feverishly to remedy the problem before the main event but couldn't correctly fix the problem in time for the call to line-up relegating Babb to the rear of the field. So Chub got the 6th starting spot. The race was took 30 min to run with 2 caution flags With Steve Francis taking the win, Tim Hitt second, Darrell Lanigan third, Mike Balzano forth, Rick Eckert fifth, and Chub in sixth.
