A lot of people ask what this decal is for on Chub's car, so we have decided to dedicate a page of our web site. Michael (Indian) Pierce was one of Chub's best friends and even drove for Chub from time to time and will always be a member of the 1* Race Team.

Dedicated To The Memory Of Mike "Indian" Pierce

August 7, 1962 – January 31, 1996

He was the average boy next door, with many good friends and respected member of the racing family. He grew up in Jamestown, NY. The son of Joan and “Jughead” Pierce with his siblings Linda, Eddie, and Robert (Toby). Mike graduated from Southwestern High School an honor roll student, then going on to college in Columbus, Ohio. Mike was very sports minded, enjoying rock climbing, golf, football (A big Buffalo Bills fan) and a clothes horse as well as stock car racing (A diehard Darrell Waltrip fan).

Mike was like many in the racing family, acquiring his interest in auto racing naturally, growing up around it. Starting at a very young age, he would be helping his father or his fathers friends, and throughout the years was involved with Bobby Schnars, Skip Furlow, Dick Litz, Bud Moore, Gary "FROSTY" Fosburg, Chuck “Punk” VanGuilder, and even lived with Marcia and Tony White for a couple of years, with Tony being one of the best in showing him the ropes about putting a race car together. Mike drove with his brother Toby, Johnny Scholla, Kevin Peterson, and others as his crew, drove for Chub Frank and his dad, and also racing with Chevy and Dave Scott. There were many others too numerous to mention, but racing seemed to be a major part of his world, winning many races and gaining many friends until he began a family, that then became his priority.

Mike and Chub were best of friends and seemed nearly inseparable during their late teens and into their early twenties. In 1984, Mike drove Chub's Limited Late #4 at Eriez.

In 1988, Mike moved to Flat Rock, North Carolina, so that he could be with his oldest son, Alexander, who was 14 years of age. His marriage to his wife Lisa, added a step-son to his family, Josh (then 10 years old), he and Lisa had a baby, Raymond.

While he lived in Flat Rock, he worked at Duke Power Electric Company. On January 31, 1996, his work orders took him 30 feet up a pole that had malfunctioned at the top, yet had a crack at the base. “It won’t take long” was what Mike said about the problem, and the pole in front of a friend’s house was to be the last pole Mike would ever climb as the crack turned into a break while he was doing the repair. Mike passed away that day with his biggest concern being for the welfare of his wife and children.

Mike Pierce’s life stands for so many of us here in the racing family and beyond. Because he was someone that touched so many lives in numerous ways, it was felt by family and friends that his senseless passing should not go without notice. The N.W. PENN sponsored Limited Late Model 100-lap Championship race will also be known as the race dedicated to the memory of Mike Pierce. To Jim and Jean Scott, a sincere thanks to you for linking the two races an much gratitude is extended to Lynn and Fran Seamens for all their effort and allowing it all to be possible.
