"Dirt
Late Model National Championship"
October 26, 2002 - Atlanta,Ga.
Friday night was to be the first night of The Dirt Late Model
Championship but Mother Nature had other ideas so Owner/promoters Jerry,
Mona and Josh King decided to run The Dirt Late Model Championship at
Florence Speedway in Union, KY. on Saturday and make it a one day show
at their high-banked 1/2-mile speedway for the running of the $30,000 to
win Dirt Late Model Championship. With total purse in excess of $85,000

Qualifying began at 3:00 with over 65 drivers on hand attempting to
qualify for the Dirt Late Model Championship event, Chub the defending
2002 North-South 100 & North-South 50 Champion qualified in 21st out
of over 65 cars that took time trials, with the track record being
shattered by Shannon Babb setting fast time. Chub lined up the 1* Corry
Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom's Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket
Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo
in the 2nd heat race on the pole position and finished in 2nd behind
Davey Johnson so Chub transferred into tonight's Dirt Late Model
Championship event starting 8th. Chub had to pit with a flat tire
on the 78th lap and with only 22 laps remaining he managed to get back
to 6th before the checkered flag flew and brought the 1* Corry
Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom's Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket
Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo
home in 6th position. This marks the final race for the 2002 season for
the 1* team, its been a good year for the entire team and we would like
to thank everyone for their support they have given us this year.
The top 8 for the Dirt Late Model Championship were 1st Brian Birkhofer,
2nd Steve Francis, 3rd Jimmy Mars, 4th Randy Korte, 5th Davey Johnson.
6th Chub Frank 7th Jon Gill and was 8th Rick Aukland. |
