World 100 - D.N.Q. September 8, 2002

Chub and the 1* team led again this weekend by Boom Briggs arrived at Eldora Speedway in New Weston, Ohio Thursday afternoon for the 32nd running of Eldora Speedway's World 100. After a short tech inspection and they always find something to fix on the body, Chub made the adjustments to the body with his right fist, the car passed technical inspection Chub then drew for his qualifying spots, he drew at middle of the field for round 1 and a very late number for round 2. Over 200 cars were entered and signed in to try to qualify for this year’s World 100  24 car starting field.

On Friday Chub took to the track for his 2 hot laps and quickly returned to his pit area and informed Boom to change the entire setup as the racetrack was black slick from top to bottom and the normal setup that Eldora calls for was not going to work this time, nobody had ever seen this racetrack look like it did for qualifying. The entire crew got very busy and changed the 1* over to a different setup as did just about everybody else in the pits. Chub then lined up to qualify the 1*, the race track got slicker and slower the later it got in qualifying in the first round, then it got faster towards the end of round 1 this race track kept changing fast, so for round 2 Chub told Boom and crew to try something completely different that they have only run twice before but with some success they got the car in line for round 2 and Chub tried to get a better qualifying time, he ended up 67th out of the 202 cars. So now for Saturday, Chub now starts 12th in the 1st heat of 6 and the take 3 to the World 100 out of the heat races. Chub and the crew got up early and rescaled the car and set it up for the heat races. Chub lined up the Corry Rubber, Corry Laser, Nystrom’s Auto Sales, Draime Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Pierotti Motorsports, Farr MotorSports, Chevrolet Monte Carlo in front of a standing room only crowd for the 1st heat race Chub managed to move the 1* up to 7th but there was virtually no passing at all in any of the 6 heat  races. Chub now has to run the B-main to get into the World 100 he started in 13th and finished in 7th they took 4 to the World. Chub didn’t make it. But one thing for sure the entire team sure tried extremely hard to.

Next up for Chub will be Next Saturday at KC Raceway in Chillicothe, OH.
